Two of the three main characters of the book "Storm Chasers: On the Trail of Twisters" now have the same last name!  Jon Davies and Shawna Helt had a marriage ceremony while storm chasing on June 19, 2008 with several of their storm chasing friends!  Since it was storm chasing that brought them together, this was the most appropriate way for them to to have a ceremony.  You can read more about it and see some pictures on Jon's blog.   Thank you to all of our storm chaser friends that have lent their support and best wishes!

Jon and Shawna would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the victims of the June 11, 2008 tornado outbreak that killed 4 Boy Scouts in Little Sioux, Iowa and 2 people in northeastern Kansas.  We were actually chasing the storms in NW Iowa, including the supercell that hit the Boy Scout camp.  While later surveying damage near the camp and speaking to one of the Boy Scouts, we were extremely impressed by how these boys handled this difficult situation.  The Scouts are helping to re-build the campsite which will include a tornado shelter and will cost up to $2 million dollars.  If you would like to help, you can send a check or money order to:

(Please make checks payable to the Mid America Council, BSA)

Jon and Shawna would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the victims of the Southeast U.S. "Super Tuesday" tornado outbreak.  As much as we love storm chasing and learning about severe weather, we NEVER like to see any sort of destruction like what happened last Tuesday.  If you would like to help, you can donate to the American Red Cross.  Also, please check out our Severe Weather Safety page.  It has a lot of information on how to prepare in case of a weather event such as this.

The Central Plains Severe Weather Symposium will be held on Saturday, March 29th, 2008 in Lincoln, NE.  This is a FREE family-friendly educational event for weather enthusiasts of all ages.  Jon and Shawna will be giving a presentation on storm chasing, and selling "Storm Chasers! On the Trail of Twisters" in the vendor room.

The 8th annual DCEM Severe Weather Symposium will be held on February 23, 2008 in Lawrence, KS.  Jon will be giving a presentation on night time tornadoes (including the Greensburg, KS tornado), and Shawna will be selling "Storm Chasers! On the Trail of Twisters".  There is a $15 registration fee and pre-registration is required by Friday, February 15th.  For more information, contact Teri Smith; Director, Douglas County Emergency Management at: tsmith@douglas-county.com

Jon and Shawna will be attending the 2008 10th annual National Storm Chasers Convention in Denver, CO.  Jon will be speaking on Saturday and Sunday in the presentation room, and Shawna will be selling "Storm Chasers!
